About The Position

The Insurance Verifier position at Houston Methodist is responsible for obtaining and recording eligibility and benefit information for patients, confirming authorizations, and completing admission notifications. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring financial clearance for patient accounts and involves effective communication with various stakeholders including patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • One year of healthcare experience, including insurance verification, preferably in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge of electronic health record software (EPIC preferred).
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care reimbursement methodologies.
  • Mid-level medical terminology and knowledge of insurance requirements for physician visits and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-9 and/or ICD-10 codes.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility in working hours to meet patient volume needs.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and record eligibility and benefit information for patients.
  • Confirm authorizations and complete admission notifications as applicable.
  • Calculate patient liability and generate estimates for financial responsibility.
  • Promote a positive work environment and contribute to team-focused results.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, facility, physicians, and department for financial clearance.
  • Monitor and track authorizations, ensuring accurate CPT codes and expiration dates.
  • Communicate to resolve patient access and quality service matters.
  • Timely and accurately document patient eligibility and benefit information.
  • Notify payers of patient admissions or procedures for reimbursement.
  • Evaluate patient liability and generate estimates as needed.
  • Organize time effectively and assist team members during heavy workloads.
  • Participate in department projects and seek opportunities for learning and development.
