About the position

The Insurance Verification Specialist plays a crucial role in the Business Office Team at Muskegon Surgery Center, responsible for verifying insurance benefits for scheduled surgery patients. This position requires strong knowledge of health insurance processes and healthcare revenue cycles, along with excellent communication skills to ensure a positive patient experience. The role involves calculating patient financial responsibilities, preparing estimates, and connecting patients to financial resources as needed, all while maintaining a collaborative and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities

• Create exemplary patient engagement experiences
• Verify insurance benefits with timeliness and attention to detail
• Create estimates and determine patient financial responsibility
• Communicate financial responsibility to patients and direct them to resources
• Establish and document payment plans for patients
• Be a resource for patients with questions about their financial responsibility

Requirements

• Minimum of two years of experience in a similar role
• High school diploma/GED
• Proficient with computers, EHRs, and medical terminology
• Strong knowledge of health insurance plans and processes
• General understanding of healthcare contracts, billing, and coding
• Excellent communicator with patients and peers
• Ability to focus and prioritize work with minimal supervision

Nice-to-haves

• Ambulatory Surgery Center experience is preferred
• Some specialized training relating to these areas of responsibility is preferred
