POSITION OVERVIEW: Title: Insurance Verification Specialist Reports To: Billing Manager Schedule: M-F; 8am-5pm Status: Non-Exempt Summary: Under the general supervision of the PSR Manager, the Insurance Verification Specialist is a patient facing position. Within this role you will interact with patients collecting and verifying insurance coverage as well as notifying them of gaps in coverage or money required to cover deductibles or co-pays. Additionally, this role with have consistent interaction with the referrals department verifying if referrals and/or authorizations are required for scheduled services then disseminating this information to patients and other departments as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of one (1) year experience in conducting insurance verification work in a healthcare setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of basic Medi-Cal terminology
  • Intermediate or higher proficiency in utilizing Electronic Health Records systems
  • Experience working with Native American population in a healthcare setting 2+ years preferred.

Responsibilities

  • This role has heavy patient interaction as it verifies insurance coverage at both the primary and secondary levels in a timely manner.
  • Effective communication back to the patient of any additional information needed as well as communicating any costs that the patient may incur as a deductible or co-pay.
  • Utilizing the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system the incumbent will effectively enter all relevant data and follow with other departments as necessary.
  • This could include reviewing with the referrals department any items needed for a patient, or coordinating with external sources in collecting the required information and data.
  • This role may also be asked to perform standard Patient Service Representative tasks as needed by the needs of the organization.
