About The Position

Emergency Department (ED) Admitting Representative Candidates will be cross-trained in both ED Admitting and related intake areas Position Summary The Emergency Department Admitting Representative is responsible for accurately registering patients, verifying insurance coverage, identifying authorization requirements, and ensuring timely and appropriate reimbursement. This role requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with clinical teams, physician offices, and external healthcare partners in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Requirements

  • Strong customer service skills
  • Experience working in a hospital or acute care facility
  • Minimum of 3+ years of healthcare experience in a hospital setting (ambulatory care experience also acceptable)
  • Solid understanding of insurance verification, authorizations, and hospital registration processes

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using EPIC (preferred)
  • Bilingual in Spanish (strong plus)

Responsibilities

  • Confirm patient insurance coverage, demographic information, and medical details to ensure accurate registration and reimbursement
  • Identify services requiring prior authorization for treatment or referral
  • Obtain and manage authorizations for hospital beds and services
  • Handle claims-related tasks, request authorizations, and attach referrals as needed
  • Utilize EPIC for patient intake, registration, and verification of patient demographics
  • Verify insurance types and coverage, including: HMO vs. PPO plans Medicare and Medi-Cal
  • Collect co-payments and clearly communicate shared costs and patient financial responsibility
  • Receive and respond to calls from case managers at other healthcare facilities and ministries
  • Apply medical terminology knowledge accurately in daily workflows
  • Collaborate closely with physician offices, hospital ministries, and internal departments
  • Support multiple departments and remote locations as needed
  • Provide exceptional customer service by creating a welcoming experience for patients and internal staff, both in-person and over the phone
