Summary The Insurance Navigator I provides free and unbiased help obtaining health coverage to residents of Chelan, Douglas, Grant, and Okanogan counties regardless of their medical home. This position assists their clients in person and telephonically through the enrollment process for programs such as: WA State Apple Health, Qualified Health Plans, Medicare Savings Programs, Medicare Extra Help Rx Programs, Pregnancy Medical, Alien Emergency Medical, and Take Chare Family Planning. As a certified Navigator, this role also helps clients with PCP and plan changes, serves as referral resources for self-paying patients of Confluence Health, and screens potential applicants for Charity Care (CCP).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience in an office setting possessing intermediate computer knowledge such as MS Office.
  • Active Washington State Navigator Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Active Community Health Worker Certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English as well as the performance of basic math function.
  • Ability to work on a team as well as independently while applying knowledge and skills to analyze multi-dimensional issues.
  • Maintain a positive and resourceful attitude.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, maintaining a positive demeanor during challenge.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT coding, medical terminology, and insurance billing.

Responsibilities

  • Frequent contact with patients (in person and/or by phone) to screen and enroll into appropriate programs in reference to payment of outstanding/future account balances with regards to the Affordable Care Act.
  • Provide the highest quality customer service to patients and providers through active and empathetic listening.
  • Complete exhaustive and thorough research of issues, to ensure all concerns are addressed and resolved to customer satisfaction and demonstrates the ability to know when to escalate issues to leadership.
  • Provide outstanding customer service for non-billing related issues while utilizing their training and knowledge as a Community Health Worker.
  • Support health insurance coverage retention efforts by analyzing assigned department reports contacting, screening and enrolling patients into appropriate programs.
  • Demonstrates ability to work at a productive level that meets department expectations by maintaining patient appointments, working referrals, following up in a timely manner and in accordance with department policy.
  • Participate in regular department reviews to ensure that established Key Performance Indicators, goals and standards are met. Effectively reports status to leadership.
  • Maintain availability and flexibility in order to provide optimal navigation assistance and customer service.
  • Collaborate, create and support marketing ideas to promote the value of health care coverage including participating in outreach, provider education, and navigation events which may be held during evening and weekends, as needed.
  • Maintain proficiency in knowledge of eligibility, enrollment, and insurance program specifications while actively participating in training opportunities as they are presented.
  • Possesses the ability to identify circumstances that may impact patient, navigator, or provider support and communicate those concerns appropriately with leadership.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be an active listener, as well as a contributor of ideas, to partner with others to achieve high standards of team performance.
  • Provides timely, professional verbal and written communication, keeping multiple parties informed of issue and reconciliation status.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively with other's both internally and outside of Confluence Health to achieve shared objectives in the highest level of service.
  • Using self-management and problem-solving skills, effectively demonstrates ability to be a self-starter.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate standards of behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.
