About The Position

The Insurance & Loss Control Manager protects Emory University and Emory Healthcare from insurable financial loss and will report directly under the Director, Insurance & Loss Control and ultimately the Vice President, Insurance & Loss Control. Assists the Office of Insurance with the overall management and coordination of insurance processes for Emory Healthcare and Emory University. This includes exposure data management and analysis, maintaining files and data integrity, and gathering and maintaining risk exposure information for various lines of insurance. Data management is a key component to the role. The Insurance & Loss Control Manager will contribute to the overall insurance cycle.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in business-related field
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of risk management and/or insurance experience, at a Healthcare and/or University is preferred
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Corporate property & casualty and liability insurance principles, coverages, and policy structures
  • Insurance renewal and underwriting processes, including submission preparation and market analysis
  • Strong organizational skills to manage high-volume, detail-intensive data
  • Analytical skills for property trend analysis, loss scenario modeling, and renewal evaluation

Responsibilities

  • Insurance Renewal Process Support Works with team to compile, organize and complete all information and documents required for the insurance application and renewal processes.
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as faculty, staff, insurance brokers, insurance companies, claims adjusters and others
  • Prepare insurance submissions in market ready format for all lines of property & casualty and liability insurance coverages
  • Meet with underwriters and gathers answers to questions as it relates to the exposures, with the goal of obtaining favorable insurance quotes
  • Participates in the evaluation of market renewal options including financial, strategic and operational analysis and is included in discussions for recommendations as appropriate to key stakeholders
  • Works with the team and insurance consultants to review quotes, make binding recommendations, review binders, review policies and endorsements for accuracy
  • Works with appropriate individuals to develop and secure accurate data for annual insurance audits for workers' compensation programs and other lines as needed
  • Works with team to organize insurance-related documents
  • Claims Management Process Support Works with insurance team and other stakeholders to gather information and documents relevant to prove a loss for all lines with the exception of medical professional liability and general liability claims
  • Property Insurance Management Assists the Director to review and maintain the system-wide property schedule to be used for securing and maintaining insurance coverage and premium allocation purposes
  • Schedule contains over 800 properties, with $14 billion of total valuation.
  • Reviews data and performs trend analysis on property values and loss scenarios
  • Update schedule with new locations, trend for inflation, include construction type, square footage, age, etc.
  • Conduct periodic reviews with specific areas to drill down on changes
  • Utilize property insurer and other training opportunities to expand knowledge of property insurance principals and engineering principles
  • Respond when called in the event of a property loss
  • Work with insurers, facilities management department, and consultants on loss control including recommendations from risk engineering reports
  • Work with team to manage property losses and coordinate with property insurer when in excess of $100,000
  • Professional Development: Works with managers to formulate plans for professional development
  • Attends educational in-services as appropriate
  • Additional Duties as Assigned
  • Travel: Less than 10% of the time may be required
