Summary Provides counseling to patients and their families regarding covered services and financial responsibility. Performs financial counseling review, interdepartmental communication, staff education, and policy development regarding billing procedures, provider schedule maintenance, and computer/insurance informational support while adhering to the established standards and practices.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year Computerized physician billing
  • 1 year Within a healthcare setting
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients, peers, and professional colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently with precision and accuracy.
  • Ability to transcribe dictated physician notes for correspondence and patient medical records with high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Familiarity with all aspects of coding.
  • Excellent customer service, communication skills, and ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of insurance carrier, Medicare, Medicaid, and Managed Care regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree
  • Familiarity with all aspects of coding including ICD-9, CPT, and HCPC's.
  • Technological literacy required including Microsoft Office applications, IDX, and LastWord.

Responsibilities

  • Welcomes patients and answers phones in a friendly, positive, and professional manner while always providing superior customer service.
  • Analyzes and maintains reports to ensure timely submission of claims and identifies problem accounts requiring further work.
  • Serves as the "expert" in support of general insurance verification/coverage functions.
  • Monitors and obtains financial information and authorizations to ensure appropriate coverage for transplant and supportive care treatments.
  • Communicates medical conditions and treatment plans to carriers and suppliers to determine coverage.
  • Educates patients, families, staff, and physicians regarding reimbursement issues.
  • Files clinical reports in medical records and conducts monthly performance audits for completeness and optimal financial clearance.
  • Processes insurance referrals and insurance verifications for patient services.
  • Reviews explanations of benefits for payment accuracy, denials, and appeals.
  • Supports front desk operations in all aspects of patient registration.
