About The Position

The Insurance Claims Supervisor GL (State Risk Adjuster 5) is responsible for supervising a unit of claims adjusters within the State's multi-line property and casualty self-insurance program. This role involves overseeing claims handling and management activities, ensuring compliance with contract terms, and exercising authority over claims settlements and payments. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of insurance claims processes and the ability to lead a team effectively.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree plus three years of professional level experience in insurance claims adjusting, nursing, allied health fields, construction management, or as a practicing attorney.
  • A master's degree in relevant fields can substitute for one year of experience.
  • Experience in accident investigation, insurance claims examining, or adjusting can substitute for required college training.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a unit of claims adjusters for the State's multi-line property and casualty self-insurance program.
  • Oversee work processes and review transactions that exceed authority levels delegated to the Third Party Administrator (TPA).
  • Monitor and review the work of TPA desk examiners and claim adjusters, ensuring compliance with performance standards.
  • Develop and execute periodic in-depth file and performance reviews of TPA claim files.
  • Examine and evaluate the handling and disposition of non-litigated claims, assessing liability and settlement methods.
  • Receive and review Petitions, perform risk matter reviews, and process Petitions to the Attorney General for legal opinions.
  • Participate in team meetings with the Attorney General's Office, TPA, and ORM personnel to discuss case strategies.
  • Review claims involving litigation to ensure sufficient investigative activities by defense counsel and TPA.
  • Prepare and submit case analysis of State's liability with settlement recommendations to the appropriate claims level.
  • Authorize individual payment and settlement authority up to $100,000 and increase total claim reserves up to $500,000.
