About The Position

The Department of Insurance is seeking to hire an Insurance Analyst Trainee in the Property and Casualty Products Section. This position is trained under immediate supervision, for a period of six to twelve months in a training program designed to develop the necessary skills to perform in the various phases of insurance regulation. The trainee receives orientation and training in the meanings and applications of the Illinois Insurance Code and respective rules, regulations, bulletins, and interpretations in the subject area. The trainee will be assigned to the Property and Casualty Products Section to enhance experience in basic processing procedures, terminology, and techniques within Property and Casualty Products. After successful completion of on-the-job training and instruction, during which periodic evaluations will be made, the trainee will qualify for promotion to fill targeted vacancies as an Insurance Analyst. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
  • Requires the ability to pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least six (6) months of working knowledge associated with Property and Casualty insurance or as a Property and Casualty insurance producer/agent.
  • Prefers at least six (6) months of working knowledge of Microsoft Office Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Teams, and SalesForce.
  • Prefers at least six (6) months of working knowledge associated with customer service.
  • Prefers at least six (6) months of elementary ability to perform fact finding and investigations.
  • Prefers basic ability to analyze and determine facts, information, and data to make correct and accurate decisions and conclusions.
  • Prefers working knowledge of office methods and procedures.
  • Prefers intermediate ability to articulate facts, figures, and descriptions in a comprehensible mode.

Responsibilities

  • Under immediate supervision, participates for a period of six to twelve months in an occupational training program, receiving orientation and training in the meanings and applications of the Illinois Insurance Code and appurtenant rules, regulations, bulletins, and interpretations in the subject area.
  • Communicates verbally and through written correspondence with insurance company officials and representatives regarding acceptability or unacceptability of reviewed contracts, endorsements or complaints.
  • Receives training and learns to review and analyze Property and Casualty policy forms submitted for departmental approval.
  • Receives training in the processing of Property and Casualty insurance complaints for which responses are within developed interpretations/guidelines from Illinois consumers.
  • Receives orientation in the mode of communicating and deriving information/data, e.g., in particular insurance areas and what information/data is required to produce decisions/conclusions.
  • Performs cooperative research with other analysts on business products/business practices to determine if such products/practices are acceptable.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
