About The Position

Looking to hire a Certified Pump Specialist is responsible for providing specialized diabetes self-management education and insulin pump training to patients with diabetes. This role supports endocrinologists, advanced practice providers, and clinical staff in managing patients’ care plans, with a focus on improving patient outcomes through education, support, and technology training. Requirements

  • Background in a medical, nutrition, or a related healthcare field (preferred).
  • Certified Pump Trainer designation from a major insulin pump manufacturers (e.g., Medtronic, Tandem, Insulet/Omnipod) preferred.
  • Experience with continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technologies (Dexcom, Freestyle Libre, Medtronic, etc.) preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related healthcare field, with prior experience in diabetes education or clinical role preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to educate, motivate and empower patients.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) and patient documentation preferred; willingness and ability to learn required.
  • Travel required

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group diabetes self-management education, including nutrition, lifestyle modification, and medication adherence.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients’ educational needs and develop personalized care plans.
  • Train patients on the safe and effective use of insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems, and related technology.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and point of contact for pump and CGM troubleshooting and ongoing patient support.
  • Collaborate with endocrinologists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants to coordinate patient care.
  • Document all education sessions, pump training, and follow-up in the patient’s medical record.
  • Assist with insurance documentation and authorization for diabetes-related technology when needed.
  • Stay current with new diabetes technologies, therapies, and best practices in patient education.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient support programs, and staff training.
  • Provide comprehensive insulin pump and CGM education to new and existing patients, including device setup, training, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist providers in evaluating patients for pump/CGM eligibility and recommending appropriate devices.
  • Coordinate with pump and device representatives for updates, training, and patient support.
  • Support patients during pump starts, upgrades, and transitions from injections to pump therapy.
  • Monitor and review pump/CGM downloads, sharing data with providers to guide treatment decisions.
  • Serve as a clinical liaison between endocrinology providers, staff, and patients regarding pump and CGM technology.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient training, follow-up, and communications in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Travel between practices within the group as scheduled to ensure consistent support and coverage.
  • Provide in-service training to practice staff on pump/CGM technology as needed.
  • Stay up to date on advancements in diabetes technology and assist with integration into practice workflows.
