About The Position

The Senior Instrumentation Technician performs advanced journey level electrical repair and electronics maintenance work for water and wastewater treatment equipment, well site motors, sewage lift station pump instrumentation, and process control equipment, including telemetry and computerized monitoring systems.

Requirements

  • Two years of specialized vocational training or college course work in electronic/electrical and five years of experience in testing and calibrating electronic/electrical and industrial control systems.
  • Knowledge of theory, practices, procedures, and design of electronic component control, electronic systems and circuits, microprocessors and electrical maintenance.
  • Knowledge of operation and proper use of electronic test equipment and safety rules for high voltage Water and wastewater control devices and systems.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware, software, programming and applicable operating systems including Programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Skill in use of computer software and hardware.
  • Ability to provide lead supervision and training for Technicians, depending on assignment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematic drawings and engineering specifications.
  • Ability to operate, test, maintain and calibrate specialized equipment, tools and machinery.
  • Ability to identify and analyze equipment problems and design and implement solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to operate city vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • May act as a lead Instrument Technician at water and wastewater treatment plants, well sites, and lift stations.
  • Performs advanced journey level electrical, electronic and computer work in the installation, maintenance and repair of the systems and equipment at the City's water and wastewater treatment plants, well sites, and lift stations.
  • Repairs, maintains, installs and modifies telemetry and associated wiring at main facilities, wells, sewage pumping stations, sewage metering stations, zone splits and water booster station.
  • Maintains process control computers for water and wastewater treatment facilities; performs file maintenance, database modification and enters updates.
  • Troubleshoots to the component level and repairs complex electronic/electrical instruments controls and high voltage electrical production equipment, booster pumps, plant distribution switchgear and motor control centers.
  • Plans, coordinates, repairs, calibrates and performs scheduled maintenance on process control instrumentation/analyzers.
  • Operates various types of test equipment (digital multi-meter, oscilloscope, telemetry test equipment, and calibrators) to calibrate or troubleshoot instrumentation.
  • Maintains accurate maintenance records, parts inventory, and equipment information.
  • Specifies, procures, purchases, and installs new equipment to improve existing equipment.
  • Coordinates maintenance, repair and improvement projects with department operations, outside agencies and contractors.
  • Designs and builds specialized test equipment and control circuitry for plant production equipment.
  • Reviews and evaluates electronic, electrical, and computer specifications for facility construction projects.
  • Operates city vehicles.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • The City of Glendale observes 10.5 holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave per calendar year.
  • Vacation leave accrues at 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours/17.25 days per year) and increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years, then caps out at 7.6 hours after 10 years of service.
  • Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours/14.25 days per year).
  • This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) with a mandatory contribution rate of 12.27%.
