About The Position

The Instrumentation Technicians is responsible for the maintenance, repair, tuning, and calibration of combustion systems throughout the facility. Such systems include, but are not limited to pneumatics, hydraulics, steam, gas, and minor refractory. Required skills include, but are not limited to general mechanical repair, electrical controls repair, minor PLC programming, and minor refractory repair.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Air/Gas ratio, instrumentation.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • The ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common send understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to make correction decisions on furnace capabilities.
  • Combustion Training – Basic Electrical

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of AMS 2750 and associated requirements is preferred, and will be trained as part of the classification criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure furnaces are maintained to meet requirements of AMS 2750 and other customer imposed pyrometry requirements.
  • Set up, conduct, and document required system accuracy testing per standards and SIFCO work instructions.
  • Set up, conduct, and document required temperature uniformity surveys per standards and SIFCO work instructions.
  • Calibrate all equipment instrumentation including, but not limited to, temperature controllers, HMIs, PLC systems, thermocouples, and data recorders.
  • Troubleshoot furnace performance issues and conduct repairs in support of operations.
  • Work with Combustion Control operators to troubleshoot and improve furnace accuracy and reliability.
  • Set furnace temperatures and combustion ratios as back up for Combustion Control technicians as assigned.
  • Perform required preventative maintenance work described in workorder management system.
  • Change out resident and non-resident thermocouples as scheduled based on SIFCO work instructions.
  • Ensure Maintenance logs are accurate and signed off by the Quality and department managers.
  • Replace and/or repair equipment controllers, HMI screens, back-up recorders, and other PLC equipment.
  • Monitor reliability and performance of combustion systems: Complete periodic manometer pressure testing on combustion systems to ensure equipment uniformity is correct and running stoichiometric.
  • Utilize combustion analyzer to monitor biproducts of combustion gases produced while running product.
  • Monitor door condition and conduct thermography to ensure minimal heat loss.
  • Log all Thermocouple certifications to be approved by designated Quality members.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of the current revisions of AMS2750 and Work Instructions assigned.
  • Maintain a detailed knowledge on the current revisions of NFPA86 – Standard for Ovens and Furnaces.
  • All other duties as assigned.
