About the position

GreenWood, Inc. is currently seeking Instrumentation Technicians & Engineers with a focus on reliability for job sites throughout the Southeast. These are skilled positions at the journey-level minimum. Instrumentation Technicians work directly with process control engineers and support both hardware and software maintenance. The successful candidate for this position will provide expertise to develop process control strategies so that the process areas operate smoothly and efficiently. The ideal candidate will have a desire to drive for root cause and a history of implementing systemic solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Supports site safety and quality initiatives through participation and leadership in teams, incident/Corrective Action Report (CAR) analysis, and follow up
  • Interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics to troubleshoot and maintain process control systems
  • Complies with all documentation requirements regarding processing, GMP safety, housekeeping, environmental, and sanitation and performs all work in compliance with company guidelines for safety and environmental responsibility
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains Distributive Control System (DCS) and Programmed Logic Control (PLC) systems, which includes higher levels of automation, improved methods of control, and improved information gathering and reporting
  • Completes necessary documentation to ensure control documentation is current, follows all necessary change control procedures, and updates (marks up) drawings to reflect process improvements and field changes
  • Acts as a first-call for process-control related problems and interfaces with process Area Leaders and maintenance for support of control systems as well as backup support to process control personnel
  • Provides ongoing technical support to production and maintenance in the area of process controls and instrumentation
  • Interfaces with production, maintenance technicians, and engineering by participating in development of new process design and existing process revision as it pertains to process control software and hardware
  • Tests and calibrates pneumatic electrical instruments
  • Prepares accurate records for preventive maintenance
  • Adjusts, repairs, and replaces electrical and electronic pneumatic relays
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in a production maintenance environment as an Instrumentation Technician and/or completion of a 2 year degree in a related field from an accredited technical school
  • Knowledge of/experience with PLC, Provox, Smart Transmitters, Mass & Mag Flow Meters, Radar Level Transmitters, and Electronic Calibration Data Base
  • Able to operate within a team based environment, willing to participate in team activities and serve in leadership roles, and receptive to receiving and giving constructive feedback to team members and management
  • Able to understand and follow spoken and written instructions and to read and interpret sketches, diagrams, and blueprints
  • Proficient in trouble-shooting defects in control systems
  • Must support on-call schedule for technical support
  • Must be able to work overtime (after hours, weekends), follow minimal instructions, and support safe work practices
  • Must demonstrate a high level of customer service and strong communication (both listening and speaking) and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to function responsibly as part of a team
  • Considerable knowledge of the practice, methods, tools, equipment, and materials relating electrical instrumentation and control systems
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved
  • Knowledge of Smart transmitters and Smart communicators
  • Knowledge of differential pressure, ultrasonic, radar, and float level transmitters and switches
  • Knowledge of flow meters used to measure linear, non-linear, mass, or volumetric flow rates of liquid or gas
