About The Position

ONEOK, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Instrumentation and Process Controls Technician Intern to join our team for a hands-on learning experience. This internship is designed for students actively pursuing a certificate or associate degree in Process Control and Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical program. The intern will support the maintenance and optimization of control systems used in natural gas processing and pipeline operations, gaining exposure to industry-standard platforms such as DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a certificate or associate degree program in Process Control and Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of control systems and instrumentation concepts.
  • Strong interest in industrial automation and process optimization.
  • Willingness to learn and work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and work in field conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with platforms such as Allen Bradley, Modicon, DeltaV, or ClearSCADA.
  • Basic knowledge of networking and control system architecture.
  • Experience with technical documentation or programming coursework.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in routine maintenance and troubleshooting of control systems including Basic Process Control Systems (BPCS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
  • Support hardware diagnostics (e.g., fault identification, battery checks, basic wiring inspections).
  • Participate in software updates and backups for control systems.
  • Help perform preventive maintenance tasks such as climate control inspections and filter replacements.
  • Shadow technicians during after-hours system support and emergency response scenarios.
  • Aid in documentation and archiving of control system programs and configurations.
  • Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures and best practices.
  • Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to understand control narratives and system logic.
  • Learn to interpret and modify graphics and control logic under supervision.
  • Observe and assist with project planning and implementation involving control system upgrades or expansions.
