About The Position

Irradiant Technologies is looking for an Instrumentation Engineer to help install, integrate, and test electro-optical subsystems used in our lithography and metrology platforms. This role focuses on hardware/software integration across a wide range of precision instrumentation and electro-optical subsystems, including beam modulation, optical actuation and scanning, precision motion and positioning, signal-acquisition and conditioning electronics, and embedded control hardware. You will write prototyping code, build test setups, perform calibration and characterization, and analyze performance at both component and system level.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience working with mixed hardware/software systems (e.g., test stands, automation rigs, instrumentation setups)
  • Hands-on experience with: Instrumentation and control hardware
  • Basic analog/digital electronics and signal interfacing
  • Lab equipment: oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, power supplies
  • Programming experience for instrument and hardware control (preferably Python; C/C++ or similar also acceptable).
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including concise documentation of experiments and results.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with electro-optical hardware such as modulators, beam-steering devices, optical detectors, laser sources or scientific cameras.
  • Hands-on experience with precision motion systems
  • Familiarity with real-time or near–real-time control loops, latency-sensitive systems and/or high-speed timing and synchronization.
  • Demonstrated experience with basic data analysis and visualization (e.g., NumPy/Pandas/Matplotlib or similar tools).
  • Demonstrated experience building automated test setups (test scripts, logging, calibration routines).
  • Background in optics or photonics (coursework or practical experience).
  • Familiarity with Git or similar version control for managing test and control code.

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, and maintain electro-optical, optomechanical, and precision instrumentation subsystems, including beam-modulation, motion/control, sensing, signal-acquisition and embedded control hardware.
  • Develop and maintain control and test code (e.g., Python/C/C++) to interface with instruments and motion/control hardware.
  • Design and execute test plans to characterize performance of individual components and integrated systems (stability, latency, accuracy, repeatability).
  • Set up, run, and automate lab experiments for system validation and performance benchmarking.
  • Calibrate electro-optical and optomechanical systems; document calibration procedures and results.
  • Debug hardware and software issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, SMUs, multimeters, optical power meters and other lab instrumentation. Set up, monitor and analyze diagnostic logging.
  • Create clear documentation for wiring, interfaces, test setups, and operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with software, optics, and lithography teams to integrate new hardware into existing platforms and iterate on performance improvements.

Benefits

  • We handle our healthcare benefits through an annual reimbursement to give our employees flexibility to choose the plans that meet their needs.
  • We offer a Flexible Paid Time Off policy and encourage people to take regular vacation.
