Cenovus is seeking an Instrumentation Engineer for our Toledo Refinery. This role provides technical expertise to ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of instrumentation systems across the facility. The Instrumentation Engineer supports day-to-day operations, leads troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts, and drives improvements through maintenance strategies and project execution. Collaboration with operations, maintenance, and project teams is essential to enhance plant performance in alignment with a production-focused model.

  • Provide technical support to unit operations and the instrument shop, including field engagement.
  • Review engineering projects and improvements to ensure compliance with refinery standards and sound engineering practices.
  • Provide technical input in determining priority and scope of instrumentation equipment repairs or replacement for projects, turnaround, and maintenance activities.
  • Assist in HAZOPs, Management of Change (MOC), incident investigations, and job safety analyses.
  • Work within a multi-discipline team to identify and manage instrumentation reliability improvement opportunities.
  • Contribute to instrumentation strategies that align with a production-centric refinery model, ensuring optimal reliability, maintainability, and performance of field instruments and control systems.
  • Legally authorized to work in the US.
  • 4+ years in Instrument Engineering or related experience in a chemical plant, refinery, or equivalent environment.
  • BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering/Engineering Technology required.
  • Experience supporting maintenance, reliability, process, or project engineering.
  • Engineering skills in troubleshooting/specifying instruments associated with process equipment i.e. pumps, heat exchangers, vessels, compressors, piping, and knowledge of industry codes such as applicable ANSI/API codes, ISA standards, and the NEC.
