About The Position

We are a long-standing, family-owned company comprised of three closely held businesses, seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Technician to be a key contributor to the long-term success of our automated industrial processing systems. The Instrumentation & Controls Technician will support both new (OEM) machine builds and the ongoing operation and improvement of existing in-house production equipment. This hands-on role covers system installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, upgrades, and equipment rebuilds while working closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree (AAS) in Electrical, Instrumentation, Controls, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years (4 years in lieu of degree) of experience in industrial instrumentation, controls, electrical maintenance, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot instrumentation, electrical, mechanical, and automated systems.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, VFDs, servo systems, robotics, industrial sensors, and Ethernet‑based controls.
  • Ability to learn new equipment, processes, and control technologies quickly.
  • Willingness to gain process knowledge related to shot‑peening or grit blasting through training and hands‑on experience.
  • Occasional travel to support our sister facilities or customer installs for up to a week at a time.
  • Ability to work safely in climate controlled- industrial environments, including climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 lbs., and wearing required PPE.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting new equipment installations, commissioning, or machine upgrades is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Support new machine builds, including installation, wiring, instrumentation setup, and system commissioning.
  • Implement, install and test ladder-logic and OITs for new equipment alongside Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Assist with FAT/SAT, startup activities, and verification of system functionality, safety interlocks, and process performance.
  • Support system upgrades, retrofits, and engineering changes to existing machines.
  • Work with a wide range of industrial control technologies and adopt new systems as they are introduced.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, instrumentation, AC/DC electrical systems, sensors, actuators, and basic mechanical issues on operating equipment.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on processing equipment.
  • Respond to equipment downtime events and provide root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Assist in the updating and maintaining of electrical schematics, control drawings, and documentation.
  • Assist in maintaining plant inventory of controls, instrumentation, and spare parts.
  • Communicate and collaborate with engineering, production, maintenance, vendors, and customers as needed.
  • Follow all approved operating, maintenance, quality, and health and safety procedures.
  • Support shot‑peening or grit blasting processes as needed, training provided.
  • Participate in hazard assessments/risk analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
