About The Position

This is an on site field support position at Surry Nuclear Power Station. You will work on a multi-discipline engineering team involved in nuclear power plant instrumentations and controls betterment projects, which integrate electrical and mechanical engineering along with control theory. The role involves working with electronic process sensors, digital controllers, touchscreen displays, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, steam turbines, and reactors to improve nuclear power plant functionality. You will prepare specifications for equipment procurement and engineering calculations for plant upgrades and modifications. The company offers mentoring, technical sessions, and on-the-job training to enhance engineering knowledge and skills. There will be opportunities to travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant sites for project coordination and field verification. Requirements

  • A BS or MS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (from an ABET accredited program) with a strong academic background and coursework in analog and digital control systems
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in design engineering for power plant control systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness or ability to solve problems using modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework in mechatronics
  • Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation
  • Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that helps you apply automation or agentic AI to real engineering problems
