About The Position

The City of Port St. Lucie is seeking a qualified individual for a technical position in the water and wastewater treatment facilities. This role involves the maintenance, installation, and repair of water and wastewater instrumentation and process control equipment. The successful applicant will play a crucial role in facilitating the development of public trust and confidence in the City and its Utility. This position is essential and requires reporting to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency. Scheduled and unscheduled overtime, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, is required, as well as immediate response to emergency conditions.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required.
  • Two (2) years' experience installing, calibrating, and maintaining electronic instruments, measurement, and control workbench required.
  • Considerable knowledge and ability to operate complex test and calibration equipment and to interpret results.
  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of electronic controls and circuits.
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices and testing equipment used in instrumentation repair and maintenance work.
  • Considerable knowledge of control loops and analog signals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in electronics preferred.
  • Prior water/wastewater utilities experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie and Utility Systems department at the forefront of decision making and action.
  • Builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust.
  • Provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives.
  • Maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • Oversees lift station start-ups and ensures proper operation and communication to plant.
  • Works with plant operators to understand plant processes.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs PLC, HMI, and RF problems.
  • Maintains PLC and RF programs monthly, files, schematics, and Operation and Maintenance (O&M) manuals.
  • Completes corrective and preventative maintenance work orders.
  • Performs calibration of instrumentation and process control equipment at water and wastewater treatment facilities utilizing all test equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs process and control equipment on a rotating on-call basis.
  • May assist in maintaining Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) switches, hubs and appurtenances related to the SCADA Network.
  • May assist with troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of PLC, HMI, and RF problems.
  • May assist with troubleshooting, installing windows operating systems and server software/hardware.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

  • International Society of Automation (ISA) Electrical to Instrumentation Cross Training Boot Camp required to be completed within six (6) months from date of hire.
  • Industrial Instrument Certificate or ability to obtain required within one (1) year from date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of a clean driving record required.
