About The Position

The Instrumentation & Control (PLC) Support Specialist plays a crucial role in bridging the Engineering and Sales teams at Hoffman Development Corporation. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive technical support for innovative car wash equipment, ensuring seamless operations for customers through both remote and on-site assistance.

Requirements

  • Technical associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering/Mechatronics/IEC or related field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Program Logic Control (PLC) operation & associated software (i.e. Allen Bradley, Logix5000/ Studio5000, Omron CX, Omron Sysmac Studio).
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills with problem-solving ability.
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude and comfort working with various hand tools and systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented and well organized.
  • Ability to read and produce wiring diagrams and other documentation.
  • Basic understanding of variable-frequency drives (VFD).
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time for up to 1 week to customer locations across the country.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 or more years of experience with electrical controls, hydraulic, pneumatic systems, electric drives, HMI Programming (Omron preferred), and digital control systems.
  • Previous experience with networking platforms: Ethernet, TCP/IP, Serial, DeviceNet.
  • Experience with PLC Database Connections.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver remote and on-site technical support during new installations, equipment startups, and general inquiries.
  • Serve as a core technical resource for customer help desk inquiries.
  • Work with customers to resolve mechanical and electrical or controls related issues.
  • Ensure that root cause information is delivered to engineering for addressing design-related issues.
  • Assist with product documentation to enhance customer service and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Interface with sales to manage customer relationships effectively.
  • Participate in feedback conversations regarding field requests and potential engineering changes.
  • Communicate with various trades and service individuals during installation and troubleshooting.
  • Aid with the commissioning of equipment, including mechanical and electrical installation, sensor calibration, VFD parameter programming, and computer networking.
  • Support field service technicians through technical guidance and office support.
  • Troubleshoot both PLC and relay-based control equipment.
  • Diagnose 3 phase electrical distribution networks and work on equipment up to 600V.
  • Use PLC programming software to observe code and diagnose complex equipment issues.
  • Assist in field wiring of control circuits and system integration activities.
  • Redline design documentation as necessary based on field requirements.
  • Maintain field service documentation during installations.
  • Assist in the setup and troubleshooting of Ethernet wiring for Ethernet/IP VFD control and PLC communication.
  • Troubleshoot HMI displays to ensure reliable system performance.
