The Opportunity The focus of Hillsboro Technical Operations (HTO) is Drug Product manufacturing (Component Prep & Compounding, Liquid/Lyophilized Filling, Automated/Manual Inspection, Packaging/Finished Products and Distribution.) This position will work under the direction of the ES&T Maintenance Manager or other site leadership. In this role you will install, maintain, and troubleshoot relay logic, ladder diagrams, control components-- photo eyes, motor starters, relays, limit switches, proximity sensors, timers, solenoids, servo drives, frequency converters, linear drives, tachometers, pressure, temperature and flow transmitters and lab equipment. You will lead or assist on equipment upgrades, repairs, and installations as necessary. Operations will be carried out in compliance with cGMPs, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Genentech standards. Advanced documentation skills are necessary to ensure system information is maintained at a superior level. The ideal candidate will possess a working knowledge of cGMP compliance, Predictive Maintenance philosophy & techniques, fundamental operating principles of industrial process instrumentation and process control systems. Individuals should also possess the ability to read, interpret and produce engineering documents and understand P&IDs, operate Delta-V and MES systems. Requirements

  • You possess a High school diploma or equivalent with +3 years of experience in instrumentation calibration and repair in a regulated industry.
  • You have proficiency with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and Calibration Management Program, preferably with SAP PM

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a two-year Associates Degree program in Electrical/Mechanical Technology (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Expertise in Instrumentation and Automated Systems: Comprehensive knowledge of various instrumentation (e.g., pressure, level, temperature, flow, analytical instruments), control systems (DeltaV, PLCs), control valves, positioners, and lab equipment for maintenance tasks.
  • Regulatory Compliance: In-depth understanding of cGMP and GDP compliance and industry standards for instrumentation, electrical systems, and regulated environments.
  • Technical Skills and Documentation: Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, schematics, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and engineering drawings, demonstrating strong record-keeping and technical writing skills to prepare reports and revise documentation.
  • Safety and Hazard Awareness: Capability to work safely in environments with hazardous chemicals, high/low temperature liquids, high-pressure systems, electrical voltages, and moving machinery.
  • Proficiency in Maintenance Management Systems: Skilled in using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems to manage equipment maintenance and asset management best practices.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, mathematical aptitude, and organizational abilities for effective problem solving and team collaboration. Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines for multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting with a heavy focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Hands-On Maintenance and Engineering Expertise: Practical experience in maintaining and repairing instrumentation, automation systems, and equipment in clean or regulated manufacturing facilities, alongside mechanical and electrical engineering expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Instrumentation and Control Systems Maintenance: Responsible for the maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of all instrumentation and control systems across utilities, manufacturing equipment, packaging equipment, and laboratory devices.
  • Operational and Engineering Support: Provide support for the design, installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of manufacturing systems while ensuring compliance with regulations, SOPs, and cGMP requirements.
  • System Optimization and Improvement: Evaluate system operations, maintenance practices, and documentation for accuracy and efficiency, recommending improvements, upgrades, and changes to enhance productivity and compliance.
  • Technical Diagnostics and Documentation: Perform diagnostics, preventive maintenance, confined space entry, and repairs of electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems. Prepare technical reports, revise procedures, and manage calibration data effectively.
  • Training and Coordination: Identify and address training deficiencies, coordinate contractors for equipment modifications or repairs, and work with cross-functional teams in an FDA-regulated environment to ensure smooth operations.
