About The Position

Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician The Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician supports the safe and reliable operation of refinery electrical systems, instrumentation, and control equipment at a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) refinery. This entry-level position works under the guidance of senior technicians and supervisors to perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of electrical and instrumentation devices throughout the facility. The technician will contribute to safe plant operations, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement while maintaining compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Basic understanding of industrial electrical systems and instrumentation principles
  • Ability to read and interpret basic electrical schematics, P&IDs, and wiring diagrams (training provided as needed)
  • Familiarity with basic test equipment such as multimeters and calibration tools
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work safely in an industrial environment and follow established procedures
  • Ability to work outdoors and in varying environmental conditions, including working at heights and in confined spaces with appropriate training
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required

  • Qualifications

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Technology, Instrumentation, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred
  • Internship or prior experience in a refinery, chemical plant, power generation facility, or industrial manufacturing environment preferred
  • Basic knowledge of PLC/DCS systems and control loop concepts preferred
  • Experience calibrating pressure, temperature, and flow instrumentation preferred
  • NCCER certification or equivalent technical training preferred
  • Familiarity with NEC requirements and hazardous area classifications preferred
  • Experience with intrinsically safe systems and explosion-proof installations preferred
  • Experience using a HART communicator or similar diagnostic tools preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of plant instrumentation including pressure, temperature, flow, and level devices
  • Support electrical maintenance activities including troubleshooting motors, MCCs, VFDs, breakers, lighting systems, and power distribution equipment
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on electrical and instrumentation equipment in accordance with established maintenance procedures
  • Assist with troubleshooting PLC, DCS, and control loop issues in coordination with operations and engineering teams
  • Support testing and verification of safety instrumented systems (SIS), shutdown devices, alarms, and interlocks
  • Install, repair, and maintain conduit, wiring, junction boxes, and field instrumentation devices
  • Assist with loop checks, point-to-point checks, functional testing, and commissioning activities during turnarounds, outages, and plant startups
  • Support troubleshooting and maintenance of industrial communication systems such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, HART, and Foundation Fieldbus (as applicable)
  • Document completed work, equipment status, and maintenance findings in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Maintain calibration documentation and support compliance with refinery standards and regulatory requirements
  • Follow all refinery safety procedures including lockout/tagout (LOTO), electrical safe work practices, hot work, and confined space entry requirements
  • Participate in pre-job planning, job hazard analysis (JHA), safety meetings, and continuous improvement efforts
  • Maintain good housekeeping, care of tools, and proper handling of test equipment and calibration devices
  • Respond to equipment failures and urgent plant maintenance needs, including after-hours support as assigned
  • Assist with general mechanical maintenance activities as required, including basic equipment repairs and maintenance support tasks in coordination with maintenance and operations teams
