The instrumentation and controls technician is responsible for the calibration, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and installation of site instrumentation, controls, and electrical components within a Combined Cycle power plant

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum 4 years progressively responsible experience in power plant, marine, refinery, or similar industries.
  • Proficient in calibration and troubleshooting of Instrumentation.
  • Experience with repair or replacement of process control instrumentation.
  • Fundamental knowledge of programmable logic controllers or distributed control systems.
  • Fundamental knowledge of electrical distribution equipment.
  • Able to use test instruments for electrical testing and troubleshooting.
  • Available for call-outs during the week and weekends.
  • Willing to learn equipment operation, troubleshooting and repair from Manufacturers Manuals or other information.
  • Able to climb ladders and stairs to access equipment installed within the power plant.
  • Able to pass a pre-hire background check, drug screening, and physical exam.

Nice To Haves

  • Installation, setup, and troubleshooting of networks and network switches
  • Demonstrated knowledge in calibration and troubleshooting of instrumentation with record of success outside of school.
  • Experience in Maintenance Management System.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and repair without established procedures.
  • Knowledge of Modbus concept.
  • Familiarization with the National Electrical Code.
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Electronics Technology or Electronics Engineering Technology.
  • Willing to share knowledge and experience with other technicians in the group.
  • Proficient in using computers running Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft programs Word, Excel, etc.
  • Flexible, adapts well to changes in scope and schedule.
  • Thrives on variety, learning, and cooperation.
  • Collaborates effectively in a team setting.
  • Qualified to operate aerial lift, scissor lift, forklift.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair all electrical, instrumentation and control systems on site.
  • Perform calibration as required on all control system input and output devices. Example: transmitters, control valves, etc.
  • Maintain power distribution equipment including switchgear, motor control centers, power distribution panels, etc.
  • Assist in improvement of maintenance procedures and record keeping.
  • Maintain Gas Turbine Continuous Emissions Monitoring System.
  • Support Operations and Maintenance personnel as required.
  • Comply with all applicable environmental, health, and safety policies to maintain a safe working environment.
