Requirements

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level II certification in Industrial Instrumentation or pass all testing and receive NICET Level II certification in Industrial Instrumentation within 12 months of hire date.

  • Associates degree in a technical field.
  • More than five years of journey level experience with the installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of pneumatic and DDC instrumentation and control systems.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level II certification in Industrial Instrumentation or higher NICET Level certification in Industrial Instrumentation.
  • Associated Air Balance Council, or other nationally recognized agency, Test and Balance Technician.
  • Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues with electronic and pneumatic controls systems and components to maintain HVAC comfort control in university buildings.
  • Leads work teams across multiple maintenance disciplines to resolve complex technical control system problems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and calibrates electronic and pneumatic controls and sensors to prevent failures and to keep the building HVAC equipment operating at optimum performance for maximum energy conservation.
  • Renovates and upgrades control systems to provide efficient operation of HVAC equipment and improve building comfort.
  • Assists other shops and team members in the accomplishment of shop goals related to key performance indicators.
  • Provides timely and courteous customer service, keeping supervisors up to date on daily work order status to ensure clear communication channels are maintained and customer expectations are met.
  • Researches and recommends repair components and test equipment to assist in procuring components.
  • Creates material lists and acquires materials for efficient work.
  • Keeps accurate records of materials used and maintains daily time reports to efficiently complete work and document details of the functions performed.
  • Gathers building HVAC and mechanical field data to facilitate analysis and improvement of HVAC performance.
  • Participates in the On-Call Program.
  • Performs other job-related functions as assigned.
