About The Position

The NC State University Facilities Division is home to nearly 900 professionals who plan, build, and maintain the spaces that foster an environment where innovation, learning, and community thrive. Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Electronics; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • A valid North Carolina driver's license must be obtained within 60 days of start date and must be maintained.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience troubleshooting commercial/industrial thermal plants, including boilers, chillers, cogeneration systems, energy measurement systems, and related controls/software.
  • Proficiency with Honeywell HC900 PLC hardware, current and voltage control loops, and field devices from manufacturers such as Rosemount, Honeywell, and Foxboro.
  • In-depth understanding of commercial/industrial HVAC and energy measurement systems and associated controls/software.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to understand instructions and convey information effectively to supervisors and the public.
  • Comfortable working independently in a physically demanding environment while adhering to safety protocols and using required personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electromechanical, electronic, and digital control systems on thermal plant equipment, including chillers, boilers, pumps, fuel systems, and cooling towers.
  • Repair electronic devices, meters, controllers, computers, and subsystems such as valves, actuators, transmitters, and sensors.
  • Use specialized test equipment (volt/amp meters, power meters, pressure calibrators) to diagnose and repair non-standard electronic devices and systems.
  • Service and maintain digital and electronic control systems within the thermal plant.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on metering and control devices to ensure operational efficiency.
