About The Position

Big Country Equipment is a BC-based heavy equipment repair and maintenance company that works with resource-based customers in the mining, construction, forestry, and oil and gas sectors across Canada. Founded in 2017, we have grown rapidly from a one-truck operation to a high-performing team of over 145 employees and a fleet of 40+ fully tooled service trucks. We are committed to taking care of customers throughout Canada, providing 24/7 service, 365 days a year. We are seeking self-starters who are career-minded, ready, and willing to get the job done safely and positively, and who can work professionally with both coworkers and customers. This is a full-time role. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will support operations across South Central BC.

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid Red Seal certification as an Instrumentation and Control Technician.
  • Demonstrated experience working as an Instrumentation and Control Technician in industrial environments such as mining, oil and gas, forestry, or heavy industry.
  • Strong troubleshooting ability across instrumentation loops, control valves, and field devices, with a methodical approach to fault-finding.
  • Working knowledge of instrument calibration practices and test equipment used for pressure, temperature, level, and flow devices.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and documentation, including P&IDs, loop diagrams, and wiring schematics.
  • Solid understanding of safe work practices around energized systems, process equipment, and hazardous areas.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work professionally with customers, operations, and maintenance stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with a commitment to accurate documentation and quality workmanship.
  • Be proficient in English, both verbal and written.
  • Be legally able to work in Canada.
  • Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Provide a minimum of 2 direct supervisor references.
  • Pass a Criminal Record check.
  • Provide a clean 5-year driver’s abstract.
  • Pass an 8-panel drug test (including marijuana) and an alcohol breath test.
  • Be able to lift 50 lbs. comfortably.
  • Not be seeking sub-contractor roles (we are not offering subcontractor opportunities at this time).

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial instrumentation and control systems.
  • Perform calibration, configuration, and loop checks on transmitters, analyzers, switches, and control valves.
  • Diagnose and correct issues with pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronic control systems to restore safe, reliable operation.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, and instrument data sheets to plan and complete work.
  • Complete commissioning and startup support, including functional testing and verification of control strategies.
  • Execute preventive maintenance and inspections, identifying deficiencies and recommending corrective actions.
  • Document work performed, test results, and equipment status updates using site paperwork and/or CMMS systems.
  • Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams to plan outages, prioritize repairs, and reduce downtime.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards, manage tools and materials, and ensure work areas are left clean and safe.
  • Follow all site safety requirements, including hazard assessments, energy isolation practices, and permit processes.
