About The Position
The Instrumental Music Teacher position at Des Moines Public School District is a full-time role responsible for delivering a high-quality educational program tailored to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of middle school students. This position is anticipated to start in August 2025, with specific locations yet to be determined. The salary range for this position is between $47,500 and $69,817, based on the 2024-2025 salary schedule. Additionally, new music educators hired for the 2025-2026 school year will qualify for a $5,000 hiring bonus, which will be distributed over twenty-four paychecks. As an Instrumental Music Teacher, you will be expected to create and implement daily lessons that align with state and district standards, ensuring that they cater to the individual needs of students and promote their growth. The role requires the creation of a culturally inclusive classroom environment that supports both academic and social-emotional development. You will participate in professional learning communities within the building and district to plan instruction, analyze student data, and develop assessments. Regular communication with families and participation in professional development activities are also essential components of this role. The position reports to the Building Administrator(s) and receives guidance from various educational directors and coordinators. The teacher is expected to demonstrate consistent progress in meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards and maintain satisfactory relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Attendance and punctuality are critical, as is the ability to maintain confidentiality and assist with additional duties as assigned.
