What we’re looking for: The Instrument Technician is responsible for maintenance & repair of digital and pneumatic instrumentation including, but not limited to, PLC/DCS, analyzers, transmitters, chromatographs, and gas detectors. The technician is able to manage a broad scope of projects and technology. Ability to accurately troubleshoot, calibrate, and bench-test equipment is a fundamental component of this role. Additional activities include maintenance, repair, replacement reliability checks, improvements, additions, and capital installations.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Instrumentation - Electronics OR completion of a 4 or 5 year Apprenticeship program OR 5 years of Instrument Technician experience in a petrochemical/refining facility or similar industry is required
  • Must have or be able to quality for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) .
  • Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft programs
  • Able to read and understand a variety of complex technical instructions.
  • Able to use inductive/deductive reasoning and sequential thinking skills to resolve problems and organize work flow
  • Able to read and understand schematic drawings and P&ID's
  • Ability to use various instrument communication protocols such as HART
  • Solid working knowledge of valves, positioners, testing, fundamental components

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Smart Plant Instrumentation/Intools or equivalent applications.
  • Utilize feedback forms, as-found as-left data, and repair notes on tasks in CMMS such as SAP.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, removal, repair, maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration of instruments
  • Diagnose malfunctions on control systems.
  • Repair, overhaul and calibrate instrument and control devices
  • Able to interpret, understand, and utilize specification sheets from applications such as IN Tools.
  • Work closely with area Instrument Engineers.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and calibration activities, documenting results and findings.
  • Programs and repairs control system components (valves, transmitters, etc.) and other equipment
  • Installs and tests new electronic components independently or under supervision depending upon the nature of equipment
  • Use of electronic testing, diagnostic, and device communication tools
  • Prepares schematic "as-built" and installation diagrams for telemetry and control equipment
  • Must be able to follow site protocols for documenting work and equipment repair histories as applicable
  • Performs clean-up of instrumentation work areas and areas where repair and maintenance tasks have occurred in the plant and units.
  • Must be available to work overtime
  • Must be available to respond to call-outs
  • Communicate instrumentation needs to all levels of the organization
  • Participates in Company required training programs and maintains required electrical credentials
  • Completes required computer based training within specified timeframes and maintains current knowledge in the instrumentation area
  • Troubleshoots, improves, repairs malfunctions, and documents failure analysis of I&E equipment
  • Sets up and calibrates, tests, measures, and repairs all types of electrical controls, instruments, and electronic variables
  • Actively participates in the implementation of the Maintenance Work Process for I&E work
  • Assists PPM Coordinator and ME role in defining appropriate electrical spare parts needed
  • Updates and follows daily maintenance schedule
  • Maintain accurate records including calibrations, electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs
  • Supports Root Cause Failure Analysis for I&E components
  • Executing work orders, inspections, and rounds in Innovapptive
  • Creating notifications with clear problem descriptions and accurate equipment tagging
  • Capturing as found and as left calibration data and loop checks on digital forms with required sign offs
  • Attaching photos or videos, barcode or QR scanning, geo tag and time stamp as needed
  • Recording labor confirmations, submitting parts requests, goods issues and returns to SAP through Innovapptive
  • Offline work and sync verification
  • Using in app work instructions, P&ID, one line diagrams, and job plans
  • Validating master data in the field and reporting discrepancies
  • Providing reliability feedback such as failure and cause data
  • Ensure that the activities are carried out to comply with the integrated management system, as applicable (safety, food safety, GMP, health, environmental, quality and responsible care requirements).
  • Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis and an ability to work extra hours if needed
  • Work collaboratively with team members with different backgrounds and perspectives
  • Assists other employees in accomplishments of Indorama’s company and site goals
  • Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor
  • Participates in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company
