Dow has two openings for Instrument Technicians in Hahnville, LA in the Saint Charles Operations (SCO) Hydrocarbons Products Maintenance Group (HCP Maintenance). About you and this role - What you will do in this role The Instrument Technician is responsible for executing maintenance tasks in a safe, efficient, and effective way according to Dow’s Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) and Global Maintenance Work Processes including: Provides maintenance craft specific support to plants. Maintains and repairs all types of equipment within craft knowledge and expertise. Requires broadened technical skills in analytical/scientific methods or operational processes to perform a defined array of activities. May act as an informal resource for team members with less experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and one or more of the following are required:
  • 2 or more years of experience in Instrumentation or Industrial Maintenance.
  • Associates degree or higher Instrumentation or a similar technical degree.
  • 3 or more years of relevant military experience.
  • Willing and able to work a 4-10 shift schedule (4 day work week, 10 hour shifts).
  • Willing to train and certify to become Level 1 Certified Rope Access Technician to perform jobs from ropes

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 or more years of experience in Instrumentation or Maintenance.
  • Proficient Knowledge of:
  • Basic electricity and electronics.
  • Pressure, Temperature, Flow, and Level Instrumentation and the different technologies used to measure them.
  • Able to read logic, ladder logic, electrical, loop drawings, and P&ID drawings.
  • Working knowledge of Industrial Electricity.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing the job package for all necessary procedures and information to verify work can be carried out safely and according to the plan prior to execution
  • Obtaining, complying with, and closing of Safe Work Permits
  • Calibrates, tests, measures, and repairs all types of process Instrumentation and controls.
  • Maintains and installs controls and instrumentation that support Process Control functions.
  • Uses instrumentation test equipment for maintenance activities
  • Apply Instrument skills in executing maintenance work safely
  • Follow the Global Maintenance Work Processes
  • Assist in maintenance planning for Instrument repairs and preventive maintenance
  • Utilizes P&ID, loop drawings, and basic wiring diagrams in maintenance activities
  • Uses knowledge of computer software for maintenance activities
  • Uses DCS and PLC Equipment and software for troubleshooting maintenance problems
  • Initiates and develops, or assists in the development of job procedures
  • Diagnoses and corrects equipment problems.
  • Calibrates and aligns equipment.
  • Completes preventative maintenance activities.
  • Checks sizing of components and parts.
  • Specifies, requisitions, and installs parts and equipment.
  • Coordinates maintenance spare parts.
  • Assists in planning, prioritizing, and scheduling maintenance through planner, work coordinator and operations input.
  • Sets up and calibrates, tests, measures and repairs all types of controls and instruments with pneumatic, electrical, and electronic variables.
  • Repairs, maintains and installs equipment and machinery which is used in the process.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions and documents failure analysis.
  • Collects equipment operation and history data to facilitate reliability improvements.
  • Works within established Maintenance Work Processes and helps resolve issues that surface as a result of planning and scheduling work.
