May 2026 Cohort Instrument Technician-Atrium Health Sterile Processing Career Pathway Program
About The Position
This 16–18 week Sterile Processing Technician Training Program provides comprehensive preparation through a combination of classroom instruction, competency assessment, and hands‑on clinical experience. Classes are held Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Throughout the program, students learn standard operating procedures, instrument identification, and best practices aligned with the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) and the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD). The curriculum covers all core areas of sterile processing, and program graduates are eligible to sit for national certification.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required within 2 years of hire.
- Achieve a minimum score of 80% on all final examinations
- Maintain an overall course average of 80% or higher
Responsibilities
- Adheres to safety standards.
- Identifies manual and/or mechanical cleaning according to the manufacturer's IFU for all general instrumentation.
- Determines, prepares, and uses supplies required in the assembly process.
- Identifies, inspects, assembles general instruments, checking for cleanliness & functionality utilizing count sheets.
- Packages and labels instrumentation.
- Safely operates sterilization equipment and perform verification and documentation of sterilization process.
- Performs high temperature (steam) and low temperature (gas plasma) sterilization.
