About The Position

The Instrument Press Operator is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and operating large forge presses to hot forge various production and experimental commodities. This role involves using a robotic-assist device for material handling, ensuring safety procedures are followed, and performing housekeeping duties as assigned. The operator works remotely from a safe distance, controlling the equipment and monitoring operational parameters to ensure quality and efficiency in the forging process.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
• Experience using an instrument press.
• Minimum of one year of forging experience in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up equipment by procedure and assemble multiple interchangeable die components.
• Transport die sets with aid of overhead hoist and/or powered industrial truck.
• Pre-heat dies with attached gas-fired and/or electric heat units.
• Continuously monitor pressure and temperature gauges for ram bearings, oil pressure, die temperature, and other instruments attached to the press.
• Perform operating sequence of loading furnace, removing part from furnace, and transferring it to the die.
• Inspect trial pieces visually and dimensionally for quality aspects such as finish, cracks, and dimensions.
• Make in-process adjustments based on inspection findings.
• Use hand tools for various tasks including die-lube and moving containers.
• Transport production materials to the next operation or designated location.
• Report any equipment malfunctions to the Supervisor.
• Read and interpret blueprints, factory routers, and safety-related information.
• Train other operators in proper procedures and techniques.
• Maintain logs, inspection sheets, and various paperwork as required.
