Instrument Operations Engineer The person hired will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system. The Opportunity The Instrument Operations Engineer works out of our Lake Forest, IL location in the Abbott Cardiometabolic and Informatics Business Unit. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments, and informatics systems is often the first step in patient care decision-making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers. What You’ll Work On Work closely with cross‑functional teams—including R&D, manufacturing, PCB, regulatory, quality, and marketing—to support prototyping, testing, validation, and production efforts. Translate regulatory and business requirements into practical engineering and validation plans. Analyze technical data and processes while considering cost, schedule, and overall business impact. Identify and manage technical and regulatory risks and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies. Coordinate project resources such as time, materials, budget, and personnel. Review and approve drawings, specifications, and technical documentation, and evaluate vendor capabilities as needed. Design, test, and improve instruments and systems by analyzing requirements, developing effective design solutions, and creating clear technical specifications. Collect and evaluate test data to define performance limits, tolerances, and validation requirements. Communicate effectively across teams by delivering clear presentations, actively listening, and providing constructive feedback. Participate in design reviews, contribute to team decisions, and help resolve issues constructively. Support team development by sharing knowledge, mentoring others, providing performance feedback, and helping identify future skill needs. Make timely decisions, maintain accountability, and adapt technical approaches to meet customer and market needs.
