Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and five years' experience as an I&C Technician and Electrical Technician in a power plant environment
  • Strong electrical background to include voltages up to 15 KV
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical equipment, electronics, schematics, basics of chemistry and physics, and controls and instrumentation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices associated with a power plant environment
  • Demonstrated ability to calibrate I&C systems and equipment, including analytic equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to configure and operate various test instruments and equipment as necessary to troubleshoot and repair plant equipment including, but not limited to; distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers, motor control centers, transformers, generators, and continuous emissions monitor (CEM) systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others in a team environment
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to coordinate work activities with other team members on technical subjects across job families
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and travel as required

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and install all power plant instrumentation, control systems and electrical equipment
  • Perform maintenance on motor control centers, motor operated valves, generators, excitation equipment and motors
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on equipment, coordinating work with various team members at various site locations
  • Review designs and installs new equipment and/or system modifications
  • Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on DC backup power equipment, process controls (DCS), programmable logic controls (PLC) and emission monitoring equipment (CEMS)
  • Use maintenance reporting systems (CMMS) to record preventative and corrective maintenance. Maintain data and further actions required; provides complete history of maintenance on equipment
  • Schedule, coordinate, work with and monitor contractors on specific tasks as required
  • Follow safe working practices at all times
  • Manage projects in support of plant and business goals, including Employee Safety Initiative (ESI's). Maintain and ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) are correct and up to date. Develop standard operating procedures (SOP's) as necessary or required
  • Review and improve operational processes and ensure that operating personnel are properly trained and adhere to established procedures and standards in accordance with prudent industry practices
  • Investigate operating abnormalities and incidents to improve equipment availability and performance and to minimize maintenance requirements
  • Investigate and assist in the preparation of RCA/Event Reports in a timely manner on all forced outages, situations and events that require reporting, or as directed
  • Create Shopping Carts for Goods and Services for approval by Plant Manager
  • Follow environmental compliance work practices
  • Identify environmental non-compliance problems and assist in implementing solutions
  • Assist other team members and work with all departments to support generating station in achieving their performance goals
  • Train other team and BU members in the areas of instrumentation, control, and electrical systems
  • Conduct equipment and system tagging according to company and plant rules and regulations
  • Perform equipment safety inspections as required and record results as appropriate
  • Participate in small construction projects. Read and interpret drawings, sketches, prints and specifications as required
  • Order parts as needed to affect maintenance and repair
  • Be available within a reasonable response time for emergency call-in
