About The Position

The Louisiana State University (LSU) College of Science and the Department of Physics and Astronomy are seeking to hire an Instructor. This role involves teaching undergraduate classes in algebra-based or calculus-based physics and/or astronomy. Some courses may be delivered online, and the instructor may also teach courses in physical science or upper-level undergraduate majors courses if they hold a Ph.D. in physics or astronomy. The university anticipates hiring as soon as the Summer 2026 semester.

Requirements

  • Master's in astronomy, physics or a closely related field

Responsibilities

  • Teach four courses per semester for a total of eight courses per academic year (one course may be replaced with equivalent department service if approved)
  • Create and maintain course syllabi's
  • Meet with classes during assigned times
  • Deliver the course curriculum
  • Develop and grade assignments
  • Hold office hours
  • Report grades
  • Assess student learning outcomes
  • Participate in departmental meetings
  • Provide student support services
  • Mentoring
  • Participate in departmental curriculum discussions
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Chair or Associate Chair
