About The Position

The Violence Prevention Specialist/Care Coordinator will serve several roles for the Comprehensive Hospital Based Adolescent Violence Assessment and Treatment at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHAVAT@CHCO). The Violence Prevention Specialist/Care Coordinator (VPS-CC) will be primarily responsible for the coordination of the CHAVAT, participate in comprehensive psychologic assessments of the CHAVAT clients, and provide counseling services, including motivational interviewing, Trauma Focused CBT, and other interventions for youth at risk for- are having already perpetrated- violence, as well as standard cognitive behavioral therapy if indicated. The VPS-CC will communicate treatment plans to the other behavioral health specialists involved in the CHAVAT as well as coordinate appointments with youth and their families. The VPS-CC will assist in coordinating wrap around services, setting up appointments between youth identified in the emergency department or hospital setting for outpatient management. The VPS-CC will assess the needs of each youth and family, and link to evidence based interventions, offered either within the violence prevention center or in the community. Additionally the VPS-CC will also deliver MI focused interventions to reduce both violence perpetration, gun carrying and gun violence in the outpatient setting. We anticipate the VPS-CC to oversee the care of 400, and deliver MI services specifically to 100 clients, annually. Requirements

  • LCSW or LPC
  • Clinical experience working with adolescents and families
  • Completed internship
  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Nice To Haves

  • Ideally but not limited to at least 3 years' experience working with at risk adolescents and young adults (substance use, juvenile justice, violence prevention).
  • Proficient in Motivational Interviewing skills
  • Experience with trauma informed care.
