About The Position

The Elementary School Youth Choir Director is responsible for leading, organizing, and developing the school's youth choir program. This position focuses on fostering musical excellence, supporting the spiritual life of the school through liturgical music, and providing meaningful performance opportunities for students. This role is separate from the school music teacher position. SUMMARY The substitute teacher fills in for an absentee teacher on a non-continuous or ad hoc basis for 10 days or less. The Substitute Teacher’s primary duty is teaching, tutoring, instructing, or lecturing to impart knowledge on students. Requirements

  • Experience in choral directing, vocal instruction, or liturgical music leadership (school, parish, or youth setting preferred).
  • Knowledge of Catholic liturgical music and the liturgical year.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with elementary-aged students in a supportive and disciplined manner.
  • Ability to work evenings for December events and other special performances.
  • Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.
  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college that is recognized as acceptable for Florida certification.
  • Must hold or obtain a Professional Certificate in subject area taught within three years of hire.
  • Documented progress towards certification must be made within the first year of hire and filed in school personnel file; otherwise teaching contract cannot be renewed.
  • Must hold or obtain Faith Fit Enrichment Certification in Levels 1, 2, and 3 within three years of hire and continue ongoing enrichment.
  • The ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Strong command of both written and spoken English language.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and conduct auditions for students interested in joining the youth choir.
  • Organize accepted members and maintain an up-to-date choir roster.
  • Plan and lead one weekly choir rehearsal that promotes vocal development, teamwork, and musical preparation.
  • Communicate regularly with students, teachers, and families regarding rehearsal schedules, expectations, and performances.
  • Select, prepare, and direct appropriate liturgical music aligned with the Catholic liturgical calendar.
  • Provide music leadership for the weekly school Mass, ensuring reverence, quality, and student engagement.
  • Collaborate with clergy and school administration to plan music that supports the themes and readings of each liturgy.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of December programs, including evening concerts requiring after-hours availability.
  • Prepare and lead music for special school ceremonies, such as the Passing of the Light services and 8th Grade Graduation.
  • Ensure students are well-prepared for all performances through rehearsals, run- throughs, and coordination with relevant staff.
  • Maintain high standards of musical excellence and student behavior.
  • Select repertoire that is age-appropriate, engaging, and aligned with the mission of a Catholic school.
  • Uphold all school policies and serve as a positive representative of the school community.
  • Attend required planning meetings and collaborate with the administration as needed.
