About The Position

The Welding & Joining Technology Instructor position is a full-time role located at the Athens/Elbert Campuses within the Division of Business, Industry, & Technology. The instructor will be responsible for teaching students in various welding and joining technology skill areas, ensuring adherence to state standards, and maintaining program certification requirements. The role involves developing course outlines, evaluating student progress, and preparing necessary documentation and reports. The instructor will also participate in staff development and contribute to recruitment and job placement efforts.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Welding & Joining Technology from an accredited college or technical institution.
  • Three (3) years' work experience in a position related to welding and joining technology.
  • Blueprint reading capabilities.
  • Experience with gas-metal arc welding, shielded metal arc welding, and gas tungsten arc welding.
  • Must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the courses assigned.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree from an accredited college or technical institution.
  • Three (3) - seven (7) years of work experience in a position related to welding and joining technology, including work experience in pipe welding.
  • Experience with fluxed-core arc welding, oxy-fuel cutting, pipe welding, plasma arc cutting, and carbon arc gouging.
  • American Welding Society Certification.
  • Previous teaching experience in a post-secondary environment.
  • Previous online teaching or training experience, including the use of video capture tools.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students in welding and joining technology skill areas under general supervision.
  • Follow state standards in developing program and course outlines, goals, and objectives.
  • Develop syllabi to meet program and school objectives.
  • Evaluate students' progress in attaining goals and objectives.
  • Request and maintain supplies and equipment, and prepare required budget requests.
  • Maintain program certification requirements, as appropriate.
  • Prepare and maintain all required documentation and administrative reports.
  • Attend staff development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences.
  • Ensure safety and security requirements are met in the training area.
  • Respond in a timely manner to administrative requests.
  • Meet with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of the students.
  • Assist with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts.
  • Demonstrate strong time management and organization skills.
  • Demonstrate effective written and oral communication.
  • Contribute to the writing of accreditation and assessment reports.
  • Demonstrate general computer knowledge (Microsoft Word, Excel).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
