About The Position

Instructs adults in academic courses by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Prepares outline of instructional program and studies and assembles material to be presented. Presents lectures and discussions to group to increase students' knowledge. Tests and grades students on achievement in class. Teaches USCG approved courses for RADAR/ARPA and ECDIS as well as others upon approval. Teaches other courses as needed.

Requirements

  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to use a computer.
  • Must hold at least a 500 ton USCG license with Dynamic Positioning certificate from the Nautical Institute.
  • Ability to read, write and speak fluent English.
