About The Position

The Respiratory Care Simulation Coordinator is a full-time faculty member responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing simulation activities. The coordinator will work collaboratively with the Respiratory faculty to ensure attainment of student learning needs and program goals. The Simulation Coordinator will report to the Chair of the Respiratory Therapy Department.

Requirements

  • NYS License as a Registered Respiratory Therapist and RRT credentials with the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Care, education, health sciences, or related field.
  • Possess working knowledge of respiratory care concepts with the ability to apply them in various situations.
  • Must have personal transportation and be willing to travel to clinical affiliate sites.
  • Must be willing to obtain BLS and ACLS instructor certifications within 1 year of hire and NRP and PALS instructor certifications within 2 years of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two years' experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for students of such programs.
  • Learning and or teaching in a simulated environment.
  • Member of the AARC

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Respiratory Faculty to develop and implement clinical and simulation experiences that support student and program success while aligning with Departmental course outcomes.
  • Works with the Respiratory faculty to review and research policies, standard practices, and procedures related to simulation.
  • In conjunction with the Respiratory Faculty, implements and updates simulation activities consistent with current best practices and accreditation standards, that meet or exceed current CoARC and NBRC guidelines.
  • Assists the course faculty by coordinating, scheduling, preparing, and implementing simulation experiences for all appropriate courses.
  • Utilizes advanced technical simulation equipment and communicates that knowledge to others as needed.
  • Ensures maintenance and repair of simulation manikins and other simulation equipment.
  • Provides orientation to Faculty, Instructors, Staff, and Students on simulation policies, procedures, use, and care of the simulation equipment.
  • Confirms all simulation equipment is fully operational before simulation activity; ensures equipment is turned off and stored appropriately after use.
  • Maintains an inventory of simulation equipment and supplies and formulates budget recommendations.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Respiratory program, other health science programs, and affiliated clinical site staff.
  • Adheres to all College, department, and CoARC accreditation policies and follows the process as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct; Participate in appropriate professional development activities to assure currency in both discipline, knowledge, and instructional methods
  • May perform other duties as required by the Respiratory Department.
