About The Position

The Department of Microbiology invites applications for one or more fixed term, non-tenure-track full/part time Instructor positions to teach on a term by term basis for the 2025-2026 academic year. Appointments may be reviewed for renewal or transition to an instructional position on a term or annual basis at the discretion of the Department Head. Instruction in the following areas may be needed: General, Molecular, and Pathogenic Microbiology; Immunology; Virology; Parasitology; BioHealth Sciences; and courses for non-Microbiology majors. The Department of Microbiology is jointly administered by both the College of Science (COS) and the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS) and offers the only B.S. degree in Microbiology in the State of Oregon. The Department offers B.S. degrees in Microbiology and BioHealth Sciences and PhD and M.S. degrees in Microbiology. It is an integral part of The School of Life Sciences (SLS), which also includes the departments of Biochemistry & Biophysics, and Integrative Biology. Classroom instruction is mostly associated with COS, while research activities support the mission of both colleges. Research by department faculty encompasses a wide range of topics in environmental and pathogenic microbiology. Currently, the department includes 12 tenure-track faculty, 4 instructors, 4 professional advisors, and approximately 150 majors in Microbiology, 700 majors in BioHealth Sciences, and 33 graduate students. Several tenure-track faculty members share appointments with other units, including the College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Pharmacy, and Department of Statistics. Faculty also actively participate in the Center for Gene Research and Biotechnology, the Linus Pauling Institute and the Molecular and Cellular Biology Program. The College of Science provides a core instructional role at OSU, supporting the ideals of learning, discovery, and engagement that are the foundation of a land-grant university. The College embraces instruction and research, in disciplines ranging from the physical, mathematical, statistical sciences to the life sciences that are based in unbiased inquiry and a dedication to discovery and innovation. Requirements

  • Master's degree in Microbiology or a related biological science field.
  • Successful teaching experience at the college or university level.
  • Evident commitment to educational equity.
