About The Position

The Department of Music invites applicants for the position of Instructor of Music in Theory/Composition. This is a 9-month appointment beginning August 16, 2026. A-State seeks an educator who will join the Department of Music, recognized throughout the region for artistic excellence and student success. The Instructor of Music in Theory/Composition is expected to be an excellent music educator in theory and composition for undergraduate and graduate level music students

Requirements

• Applicant should demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching and artistic leadership in the areas of theory and composition.
• An earned Master of Music degree in Theory and/or Composition is required

Nice To Haves

• Evidence of active scholarly and creative work is preferred.
• A Doctorate in Theory and/or Composition is preferred.

Responsibilities

• The Instructor of Music in Theory/Composition will teach music theory-related courses including: Undergraduate/Graduate Music Theory
• Orchestration
• Form and Analysis
• Aural Theory
• Counterpoint
• Applied Music Composition
• Additional duties will be assigned based on the strengths of the selected applicant and the Department of Music needs
