About The Position

San Juan College is seeking a well-qualified and highly motivated individual for the full-time, 9 month position of Instructor of English to begin Spring 2026. The position reports directly to the Dean of the School of Humanities and will teach 15 load hours per semester of English courses and perform other teaching related duties. Instruction will primarily be face-to-face at the main campus in Farmington, but may also include classes at satellite campuses in Aztec and Kirtland, as well as online and hybrid courses.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in English or related field.
  • Two (2) years of part-time teaching at an institution of higher education.
  • Access to home internet, a personal computer, and telephone.
  • Demonstrate skill and willingness to learn and use multiple technology platforms to communicate with students.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and instruct first-year composition and co-requisite composition courses.
  • Possibly teach technical writing, creative writing, and literature courses on rotation.
  • Participate in continuous effective teaching practices, assessment, reflection, and development of student learning to achieve outcomes.
  • Use the college’s learning management system (Canvas) to post course syllabus, attendance, and grades.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and others on curriculum and program review processes.
  • Participate in regular professional development activities.
  • Maintain a minimum of five office hours per week.
  • Assist in mentoring part-time faculty.
  • Work with department and college-wide committees as assigned.
  • Participate in department, school, and campus meetings and activities.
