Embrace the magic and make a lasting impact! Position Overview Join the Creative Writing Faculty at the Writing House this summer! Help us continue the legacy of fostering creativity, nurturing talent, and celebrating the individual artistic journey at Interlochen. We are seeking dynamic and transformative Creative Writing Instructors who embody our core values and are committed to nurturing young artists. As a Creative Writing Instructor, you'll design and teach genre workshops for promising young writers in grades 9-12 or 6-8, while fully immersing yourself in the unique environment that only a summer camp can offer. This year we are only looking for instructors who can commit to teaching both three-week sessions of camp (for a total of six weeks). Instructors teach Tuesday - Saturday during camp. We are currently looking to fill the following positions: One High School Poetry Instructor to teach two 110 min. poetry workshops per class day (Tuesday-Saturday) to students in grades 9-12, 6/27/2026 - 8/10/2026

Responsibilities

  • Design and teach two 110 min workshops in assigned genre (5 days a week, 1 prep) to a mix of rising 9th - 12th graders
  • Design and lead one Creative Writing Forum (e.g. a 50 min master class for for a large group of rising 6th - 12th grade writers; it can be a craft talk, generative writing exercise, educational game, interdisciplinary activity, or something involving literary professionalization)
  • Attend scheduled Creative Writing faculty/staff meetings
  • Attend special events and performances such as Collage, Les Préludes, open mic, Short play festival, visiting writers series events (e.g. dinners, readings)
  • Participate in one faculty reading each session (5-10 minute evening reading of your own work for Creative Writing students and faculty)
  • Participate in one "Writing Life Q&A" per session (i.e. a panel discussion with all Writing House faculty/staff answering student questions about writing, publishing, educational journeys, editorial work, professionalization, and what it means/takes to become a working writer/artist/educator)
  • Help director assemble student submissions for anthologies published at the end of each session
  • Assist director with organizing and hosting student readings at the end of each session
  • Provide substantive written feedback to students (and their families) via Camp Student Reports at the conclusion of each session
