About The Position

The Counseling and Development Program within the Department of Counseling, Leadership, and Educational Studies at Winthrop University is seeking an innovative faculty leader to serve in a full-time, non-tenure track position beginning in fall 2026. The Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling tracks are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP). The faculty member will provide both online and in-person instruction to clinical mental health and school counseling students, while also supervising and managing practicum and internship placements in virtual and on-site settings. Applicants must hold current licensure as an LPC in South Carolina or North Carolina, or demonstrate eligibility for licensure in either state. Experience as a clinical mental health professional is also required. Responsibilities include providing clinical supervision for master’s-level students, teaching both online and in person, and collaborating with other campus units. The position also carries the expectation of active participation as a core counseling faculty member. The successful applicant will teach and advise master's-level students while serving on program, department, and university committees. The position is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Option of summer employment with sufficient enrollments. Requirements

Doctorate in Counseling or Counselor Education or related field from a CACREP accredited program preferred (ABD considered with completion before August 2026 )
Licensed school counselor and/or LPC or license eligible in SC or NC
Experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor
Current licensure as an LPC-S in South Carolina or North Carolina or demonstrated eligibility for LPC-S in South or North Carolina.
Record of emerging or demonstrated scholarship commensurate with rank
Strong working knowledge and understanding of established professional codes of ethics and best practices for School and Clinical Mental Health Counselors and CACREP standards
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with Winthrop students, employees, and alumni
Strong leadership skills

Nice To Haves

U niversity level teaching experience in a CACREP accredited program
Experience supervising in a clinical setting including university, college or community counseling center
Demonstrated ability in use of technology and online learning for instructional purposes
Experience working with underrepresented students and students from at-risk backgrounds
Dual certificatio n and experience in School Counseling and Licensed Professional Counseling
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with Winthrop students, employees, and alumni
Ability to multitask and prioritize projects
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Experience facilitating group process and fostering collaborative decision making

Responsibilities

Teach graduate level core courses in counseling and within the school counseling and clinical mental health track both in person and online
Coordinate field placements for the school counseling and clinical mental health students
Supervise practicum and internship master's-level counseling students
Provide leadership for the counseling clinic, program, and community, including developing partnerships and collaborating with stakeholders across the university and the local community
Assist in oversight of the counseling clinic and program to ensure compliance with ethical standards, legal requirements, and state regulations, including the development, implementation, and maintenance of clinic policies, procedures, and records.
Engage in socially significant scholarship related to the counseling field
Demonstrate a strong commitment to multicultural and social justice counseling competencies as evidenced in clinical work, supervision, and teaching
Collaborate with the Program Director/Practicum and Internship Coordinator to ensure that students in the program reach expected clinical competency
Work within a collaborative team environment
Demonstrate a counselor-first professional identity as evidenced via credentials and engagement with professional counseling organizations
Actively engage as a core faculty member by advising program students and serving on program, department, and university committees
Maintain requirements for serving as a core faculty member through sustained memberships in professional counseling organizations, professional development, and professional service and advocacy (e.g., engagement and presentations in local, state, or national organizations)
Provide support at the departmental level with curriculum development, accreditation, program planning, and student recruitment
Teach and engage during evenings, summers (this is a 12-month program), and occasional weekends, as needed
Perform other duties, responsibilities, or special projects as assigned
