About The Position

The University of South Carolina Union invites applications for a 9-month, full-time Instructor of Computer Science. Teaching requirements include face-to-face and distance education, potentially including evening and/or weekend classes, along with teaching dual-enrollment classes at the USC Union campus, USC Union Laurens location, and on-site at various affiliated high schools. This role will entail instructing five courses per semester (5-5 course load). A strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, as well as participation in university and community service, is expected. The selected candidate will have the responsibility of teaching introductory computer science courses and any upper-level courses as needed. Demonstrated dedication to exceptional teaching and engagement with both the campus and local community is essential. Excellent communication skills, a commitment to fostering collegial relationships, and a strong dedication to undergraduate education are required.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 18 graduate hours in Computer Science from an accredited university by the beginning date of employment.
  • Credentials necessary for departmental approval to teach introductory and upper-level courses as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching assigned classes where needed under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs.
  • Helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content.
  • Assessing student learning outcomes.
  • Teaching five courses per semester.
  • Advising students.
  • Maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field.
  • Continuing professional development.
  • Utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties.
  • Maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
  • Serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance and student co-curricular activities.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
