About The Position

The Department of Mathematics at Western Kentucky University seeks to fill a nine-month, non-tenure track faculty appointment at the rank of Instructor I with the potential for promotions. The position begins on August 10, 2026. Appointment will be on a year-by-year basis, with a performance review occurring annually. The successful candidate will teach a range of undergraduate mathematics courses and may also teach courses in the areas of math education and/or statistics, depending on qualifications. Candidates who hold a terminal degree in mathematics or a closely related field may also have the opportunity to teach graduate-level courses.

Requirements

  • Earned master's degree in mathematics or a closely related field with at least 18 hours of graduate-level mathematics prior to the date of employment.
  • Evidence of effective teaching and ability to work collaboratively with departmental colleagues.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to teach and support students with a wide range of mathematical preparation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment that promotes the academic and personal growth of all students.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching: Deliver engaging and effective instruction in undergraduate mathematics courses, ranging from introductory to upper-level courses. Candidates with terminal degrees may also teach graduate-level courses.
  • Curriculum: Prepare and develop course materials, lessons, assignments, and assessments.
  • Student Support: Provide timely feedback, hold regular office hours, and actively support student learning and success.
  • Service: Participate in departmental, college, university, and community service activities
