About The Position

The John Deere Tech Instructor is responsible for writing course objectives, implementing appropriate teaching strategies, advising students, monitoring and evaluating student progress, and keeping accurate and timely student records. Teaching assignments for this position include, but are not limited to, various aspects of modern John Deere Agricultural and Mobile Off-Road Equipment repair and maintenance. Provide instruction and develop courses in assigned subject areas. Practice and encourage safety. Provide instruction to a diverse student population according to the objectives of each course in the John Deere Tech program. This instructor will utilize a variety of instructional strategies in the classroom/laboratory that include but are not limited to lectures, small groups, indoor and outdoor demonstrations, and laboratory activities. Lab activities may include “mock-up” components as well as “live” work on public customer or College-owned vehicles and equipment. Prepare and administer student evaluation instruments and maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress. Remain current in events and developments related to the subject area. Increase and improve personal teaching and subject knowledge through supplemental sources such as in-service activities, conferences, workshops, technical updates, and personal self-study. Participate in division and college meetings and committees. Participate in program Workforce Leadership Team ( WLT ) meetings. Maintain security of College vehicles, equipment, facilities, and materials. Serves as an Academic Advisor for students. Tasks included in this area are: advising students on their academic progress, courses needed for graduation, and division/college policies and procedures; and generally serve as the first line of communication between students and the college staff. Develop/Revise Course Curriculum and Educational Materials: Develop and/or revise course objectives, content, descriptions, and instructional strategies on the approved college curriculum form. In addition, the instructor will develop, revise, and maintain classroom/laboratory policies, grading structures, and strategies. This instructor will review, evaluate, and recommend textbooks for course use. Function as a Member of the John Deere Tech Program, Transportation Division, Instructional Division, and SCC teams. Interact with colleagues, students, staff, supervisors, and the public in a manner that will project a positive image of the program and the College, and which promotes/facilitates instructional services such as recruitment, placement, and orientation as assigned. This includes support of SCC Policies, Goals, and Strategic Plans. Maintain and upgrade the John Deere Tech classroom/laboratory instructional facilities and equipment. Responsible for verifying the maintenance of facilities and equipment to ensure that it is kept in safe and proper working order for student use. Individualized Development Plan (New Instructors): Each new instructor will develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction or his/her designee. Professional Development: Faculty should work with their immediate supervisor to develop an annual plan for professional development and improvement. Promote a Culture of Belonging Support and promote an environment of belonging where all students, faculty members, and college employees feel welcomed, valued, and empowered to contribute. Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Diesel Technology or a directly related field
  • Two (2) years of recent experience in the Transportation service field
  • A John Deere Ag Equipment Certification in the areas of instruction must be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • A Pathway to John Deere Ag Equipment Master Certification must be established within 2 years of hire
