Minimum Qualifications To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications: 1. any Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience directly related to horticulture; OR 2. any Associate’s degree and six years of professional experience directly related to horticulture; OR 3. a valid California teaching credential authorizing horticulture instruction in a community college; OR 4. the equivalent. Applicants who do not possess the EXACT degree major(s) required to meet the minimum qualifications must attach an equivalency narrative and supporting documentation at the time of application. Requirements

  • any Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience directly related to horticulture
  • any Associate’s degree and six years of professional experience directly related to horticulture
  • a valid California teaching credential authorizing horticulture instruction in a community college
  • the equivalent
  • sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s in agriculture, agriculture science, education with a specialization in agriculture or other agricultural area (including: agricultural business, agricultural engineering, agricultural mechanics, agronomy, enology, environmental (ornamental) horticulture, forestry, natural resources, plant science, pomology, soil science, viticulture or other agriculture science).
  • Successful teaching experience at the community college level.
  • Relevant industry experience including knowledge of horticultural practices and techniques common to the local area.
  • Demonstrated leadership, effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills indicative of the ability to support a positive, productive, and professional academic environment.
  • Commitment to examine, reflect, and modify instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support disproportionately impacted student populations with a goal of closing equity gaps ( see Student Equity website ).
  • Ability to contribute to the mission of the college.
