Department of Pediatrics | Section of Genetics & Metabolism has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Instructor - Genetic Counselor position. For more information, visit www.cuanschutz.edu. This position provides genetic counseling services for clinical patients with, or at risk of, genetically determined diseases. We serve the population of the State of Colorado and parts or all surrounding states. It is associated with Children's Hospital Colorado but also serves the University of Colorado Hospital on the Anschutz Medical Campus, as well as several affiliated community hospitals throughout the State. The individual hired in this position is responsible to the Genetics & Metabolism Section Head, and, if providing clinical service in another Section of the Department of Pediatrics, the clinical leadership of the section in which care is provided. The individual will work collaboratively with other faculty and genetics and metabolic team members. The successful candidate will join >22 genetic counselors providing care in Children's Hospital Colorado and will work closely with many physicians and other healthcare professionals in the clinical setting. This position will primarily support the Section of Genetics and Metabolism. GCs may move internally depending on clinical need, so the focus of this position could shift to provide GC services in another section depending on need at the time of hiring. The successful candidate will know the primary focus of their work at the time of the offer of a position. Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited genetic counseling program
  • ABGC board certified or Board eligible with board certification attained within 10 months of graduation
  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check
  • Knowledge of standard inpatient and outpatient clinical operations and procedures.
  • Ability to develop and present educational information to patients as well as to professionals.
  • Ability to provide genetic counseling, and technical information in a comprehensive, understandable, nondirective manner to patients and families.
  • Ability to work independently as well as serving as a team member.
  • Ability to gather data and prepare reports.
  • Skilled in communication, both oral and written.
  • Skilled in establishing priorities.
  • Requires ability to travel to outreach clinics.
  • Ability to develop collaborative or independent

Nice To Haves

  • ABGC Board Certified with one-year relevant experience

  • Experience in one or more specialty clinics
  • Active involvement with the department's genetic counseling students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient and inpatient genetic counseling with known or suspected genetic disorders.
  • Share on-call responsibilities with the other faculty.
  • Participate in the education of residents, medical students, pediatric residents, and genetic counseling students
