About The Position

Wheat Ridge was founded during the 1859 Gold Rush as a rest stop for miners and later named for its golden wheat fields. As unsuccessful miners turned to farming, the area thrived with orchards, vegetable fields, and later, greenhouses, earning the title “Carnation City.” Incorporated in 1969, Wheat Ridge now offers a central location with easy access to Denver and the Rocky Mountains. Requirements

  • Group Exercise Certification from a nationally recognized fitness organization such as ACE, AFFA or ACSM and/or certification from a nationally recognized organization depending on fitness class.
  • For Level I: Previous instructional experience preferred; Level II: Minimum of five (5) years previous instructional experience
  • Adult/Child CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required within 60 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, teaching methods and techniques that provide positive motivation; of rules, strategies, and skills; of the cardiovascular system, human anatomy; exercise science and a variety of resistance training programming and injury prevention.
  • Possess public relations skills; in the operation of necessary equipment; must be versatile in all developmental stages

  • Communicate effectively to the participants when teaching skills
  • Analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper courses of action to be taken
  • Learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach class content appropriate to the course description and level; develop appropriate tools necessary to offer quality; provide feedback to class participants and proper instruction in use of support materials; monitors participants and their ability to participate; monitors attire to properly perform, i.e., shoes, etc., if applicable.
  • Provide a safe environment for all participants; enforce all general building policies if applicable; complete any necessary reports and forms, i.e., Accident Reports, Health Forms, Attendance Records, Supply Requests, etc.
  • Attend scheduled meetings as required; responsible for finding a dependable, appropriate substitute upon their absence.
  • Responsible for preparation for program activities; prepare lesson plans, organize relative equipment; may be required to set-up and break-down materials used for instruction. Perform related work as required and assigned.
